Why are MBTA Red Line stations lined with ads for B2B products, mutual
funds, and designer clothes; and Red line trains filled with ads for
laundry detergent, medical studies, and ESL classes? Do a lot of wealthy
businesspeople hang around in T stations, and then leave without getting
on a train?

Two possible factors are that tear-off fliers are less effective on the
far side of the third rail, and graffitti is more common in trains than in
stations. It still seems like an odd demographic gap, though.
