If any of you have thought that the last millennium and a half were rather
odd, you should be thankful that today is the first even day since 888 AD.
In fact, that year didn't even exist under our calendar, which wasn't
invented until the 16th century.

Note also that after the last even day, there was a break of thirty-some
years before the first odd day.  Between 2888 and 3111, there will be an
even longer one.  In 888, most people wouldn't live to see 911, and I have
my doubts about people in 2888 being able to live to see an odd day.  The
last odd day before 2/2/2000 was merely 11/19/1999.

Oh, and for you nay-sayers out there, even here is defined as any number
n satisfying n=2k, where k is an integer.

Unfortunately, I don't know what happened in the year 888...
