"The Jefferson Report" -- 12/4/95
$4.5 Million For This?
There was a lot of big news last week--the President's TV address on Bosnia,
budget negotiations between the administration and Congressional
Republicans, passage of a tougher lobby disclosure law, the FEC producing
the smoking gun on Newt Gingrich's illegal political relationship with Gopac
and the revelation that the CIA and Defense Department have spent $20
million on psychics since the 70's. With all that you might have missed
this. Remember Gingrich's book, "To Renew America." The so-called best
seller that Newt said caused Democrats to have "book envy." Well,
Gingrich's book is now on the literary death watch list. It has been such
a financial disaster the publisher, HarperCollins, has decided to
practically give the book away to get rid of the inventory. Less than four
months since Newt's infamous book tour started, the price of this "waste of
paper" is being slashed to only $15. But HaperCollins doesn't think this
still may be enough to sell the Gingrich book so they are also giving
bookstores a $5 incentive per copy sold. If the store passes on this
additional savings to you, the once $24 book can now be had for only $10.
I suggest you wait until after Christmas. You might just get it for free.
