I've just returned from Java One '97.  There was universal enthusiasm that
Java represents something very special for the future of software
development, and should be the means by which the shackles of Microsoft can
at last be thrown off.  This was summed up quite nicely in a T-shirt slogan
which I hadn't seen before --

        In a world without fences, who needs Gates?
