Finnish organisers of an annual Arctic challenge in bare-handed
mosquito-killing said a lack of insects had forced them to cancel the
event. "Hardly any of the necessary live games equipment [mosquitoes]
has been found in the region," organisers of the World Championships in
Pelkosenniemi, said. A spokesman said a cold summer might be to blame.
Up to 40 contestants have in the past stripped to the waist in a
challenge to squash as many mosquitoes as possible in five minutes.
