Gearing up for a new Senate campaign, Strom Thurmond was informed that his
headquarters in Columbia, SC, was once occupied by Hootie & the Blowfish.
"I don't believe I've heard of them," he said.  "If they are from South
Carolina, I'm sure they're competent."  A spokesman for Atlantic Records,
Hootie's label, said, "He's 93.  He probably doesn't know the Beatles."

Buchanan says there's no room on his campaign staff for racists or sexists.
Of course not, says David Gee:  "Those positions were filled months ago."

In West Virginia, abortion opponents have proposed a bill that would require
women seeking abortions to wait 24 hours and review photos of fetuses.  Says
Joe Vogel, "Pro-choicers want women to wait 24 hours and take a good, hard
look at the people of West Virginia."

Lamar! Alexander uses an exclamation point after his name and his wife
"Honey" always has her name in quotes.  He's the first candidate to face
