The international news service Reuter reported yesterday that The so-called
"Deepthroat" who helped divulge the Watergate scandal might have been ABC
News correspondent Diane Sawyer, who worked in the press office of President
Richard Nixon, WRC-TV reported Monday. The NBC Owned and Operated
Television station known for its fine investigative and in-depth pieces said
Rabbi Baruch Korff, a close confidante of Nixon, defended Nixon throughout
his lifetime, but was dying now and wanted to set the record straight.
"Diane Sawyer played a very significant role," the elderly rabbi told WRC,
although he admitted he had no hard evidence to support his claim. Korff
said Sawyer had a special relationship with Nixon's press secretary Ron
Ziegler and she seemed to have advance knowledge of events as the Watergate
scandal that eventually led to Nixon's resignation unfolded. The interview
was videotaped at the rabbi's home in Providence, Rhode Island. A
spokesperson for ABC called the report laughable.
