Marc Abrahams (jir@mit.edu) points out that this line also served Mark Twain
well a few years earlier when he said that "Wagner's music is not as bad as it
sounds." Where do you suppose ol' Mark got it? If anyone has seen an earlier
use of this concept I'd be interested to hear about it.
